My Notes System Evolution

From Apple Notes to Notion to Obsidian, then to my own system. The process of tinkering with note tools is itself a form of thinking.

Phase 1: Apple Notes

Simple, fast sync, search is enough. The problem is once notes pile up, organization relies entirely on "folders" — not flexible enough.

Phase 2: Notion

Database views are powerful. But after six months, two issues made me quit: slow loading, and my data wasn't in my hands.

Phase 3: Obsidian

Markdown + local files = peace of mind. Bidirectional links, graph view, community plugins — used it for two years, the most satisfying solution.

Until I realized I was spending 40% of my "note time" tweaking plugins and templates...

Now

Obsidian for daily notes, important knowledge synced to my own SQLite database via scripts, with vector search.

The best note system is the one you actually use.
